The federal government shutdown is about health care, and we need YOU to tell our members of Congress to reopen the government and to take action to keep health care affordable.
Without immediate Congressional action, the cost of Marketplace health care coverage, which covers over 135,000 Nebraskans, will skyrocket for many low and middle income Nebraskans.
Over 90% of Nebraskans rely on tax credits to afford their Marketplace coverage. In 2021, Congress increased the tax credits to make care more affordable, but those enhanced tax credits will expire at the end of this year.
Congress has already made staggering cuts to health care in their reconciliation package (H.R.1), which are estimated to cause 40,000 Nebraskans to become uninsured and Nebraska to lose up to $4 billion in federal funding that supports our health systems.
If Congress allows the enhanced tax credits to expire, an additional 3.8 million people across the country will become uninsured each year, which will place an even greater strain on families and our health system.
Extending the tax credits is already incredibly popular across the political spectrum – so what is Congress waiting for?
Tell Congress to act NOW to prevent further harm and keep health care affordable for Nebraskans:
