TAKE ACTION: Bills seek to repeal Nebraska’s successful in-state tuition policy

Two harmful bills attempting to repeal Nebraska’s successful in-state tuition policy of 20 years will have a hearing this coming Monday, January 26:

Harmful Changes to In-State Tuition: LB870, introduced by Senator Bob Anderson, and LB1061, introduced by Senator Dave Murman, would repeal Nebraska’s successful education policy of 20 years that ensures Nebraska youth who grow up in local communities and graduate from Nebraska high schools can continue their education at in-state tuition rates, regardless of immigration status – keeping important talent in Nebraska. Current policy simply ensures youth can pay in-state tuition rates. (It does not create scholarships or grants.)

This policy has supported the talents of local Nebraska youth so that they can continue their education and later contribute important skills to local communities – as health professionals, teachers, accountants, in agriculture, and more. The policy passed with broad bipartisan support and simply ensures young Nebraskans can pay in-state tuition – supporting local talents, future workforce, and Nebraska’s colleges and universities.
