Immigrant SNAP access hearing this week!

The federal government just made getting food harder for thousands of immigrant Nebraskans. Our state needs to stand up and say NO!

H.R.1, or the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”, was passed into law by Congress in July. That law changes eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps) in ways that will remove around 7,000 refugees, asylees, and other lawfully-present immigrants from food assistance in our state, causing strain on emergency food pantries, stress for families and hunger in children.

LB843, introduced by Senator Victor Rountree, protects Nebraskans’ access to food by reversing eligibility changes that prevent refugees, asylees, and other immigrants from participating in SNAP.

Will you tell Senators to pass this important SNAP food access legislation?
